A new French Preschool in Houston

When she arrived in Houston, Katia Lane, a Franco-Canadian teacher, thought she was going to find the perfect place for her children to give them an education in French. Given the lack of options, she decided to start her own school structure and realized her dream of a preschool.

As a child, in Canada, she grew up and followed the type of education she wants to offer today. « This is an incredible opportunity to be bilingual and I want to give this opportunity to other children so that they can live and prepare themselves for the future world,” she says.

Houston French Academy which is aimed at children from 2 to 5 years old, offers the first three levels of kindergarten classes (Pre-school, Pre-K and Kindergarten). Each class will consist of a maximum of 18 children, supervised by a teacher and two bilingual assistants.

In these three groups, classes will be held entirely in French and will be based on the Montessori system and French immersion. To develop language, children will take part in art and science, as well as in introductory exercises in reading and writing. « Students will follow a pedagogy that involves gardening, cooking, music, science, mathematics, while allowing sufficient time for independent learning and at least an hour a day of outdoor play in our new open air facilities, » says the director of the school.

Open house events of the school (8915 Timberside Dr) are held throughout the month of July for parents who want to discover the French Academy Houston: Thursday, July 16 at 6 pm ; July 18 at 10 am; July 23 at 10 am. For more information and to register: www.houstonfrenchacademy.com
