You will need to put in place a few supplies before you start. In addition to acetone, you should add petroleum jelly, cotton (balls or strips), scissors, plastic food wrap, a washcloth, and a towel.

You can begin the process by applying petroleum jelly to cuticles and the surrounding skin to help protect your skin from the acetone (acetone could irritate and damage your skin). Cut the cotton balls to the size of each nail, then soak each piece of cut cotton in acetone. You then place each piece of soaked cotton on top of the nail that was cut and wrap the nail with plastic wrap. After ten minutes, you can remove the plastic wrap; most or all of the gel nail polish should be gone. 

Scrubbing Away Using Toothpaste 

Toothpaste is good for your teeth and can prove useful when you get reasons to remove your nail polish. The same component of toothpaste that makes it effective for your dental hygiene,  sodium bicarbonate, equally makes it effective in removing nail polish. The application is equally simple. Take a drop of toothpaste, apply it on the nail you want to polish one at a time, and then start scrubbing with an old toothbrush or a paper towel. While you can use any toothpaste within your reach, it is worth noting that white kinds of toothpaste work best as they lift and pull the color off your nail. 

Rubbing  Alcohol or Hand Sanitizer

Alcohol and hand sanitizer can work mutually exclusively to help remove your nail polish and remains two of the best ways to take off polish without needing an acetate remover. You will need to put in place your alcohol or sanitizer, then find a white cotton ball or pad. You can begin the process by applying some alcohol or hand sanitizer to the cotton ball or pad and placing it on your nail. After the application, let it sit for about 10 seconds and gently rub without putting your skin in danger. Your nail polish should come off fairly quickly, and then you can wash off the alcohol or sanitizer from your hands. You can also use alcohol-based perfume if you’ve got one to achieve the same results. 

Using Vinegar and Lemon Juice 

A mixture of white vinegar and lemon juice can help you make a safe homemade nail polish remover. This is a fine method because it is very safe and smells nice without many precautions. You will need white vinegar juice, lemon juice, and a cotton pad. With everything in place, you can start by combining an equal amount of white vinegar and natural lemon juice and mixing them.

You can apply it in two ways. First, dip the cotton pad in the mixture and press on your fingernails for 10 seconds until the nail polish softens. After that, pull down the cotton pad to remove the polish. The second option involves pouring the mixture into a bowl (deep enough to submerge your nails), soaking your nails for seven minutes, and wiping away the polish with a soft cloth. 

Soy-Based Removers 

You didn’t expect to find soy here, right? Soy has created a name for itself as a food chameleon, yet it continuously comes to our rescue everywhere. The principle in soy-based removers is still to soften the polish and make it easy to remove. It doesn’t react fast, yet it is very safe and gentle on your skin.
